Visiting Nida and the Curonian Spit: planning your journey
Choose the right ferry crossing, allow time for the trip to Nida and agree on crossing costs, the local entry fee and your return journey.

A trip to Nida starts with a few decisions in Klaipėda: which ferry to take, how much time to allow for the crossing and how to travel on the other side of the lagoon. Sorting these out beforehand leaves more time to enjoy the visit.
A ride to the ferry or all the way to your accommodation?
If you are crossing on foot, the Old Ferry Terminal near central Klaipėda is a convenient option. It does not carry cars. You will need to arrange onward travel from Smiltynė separately, whether by checking the bus route and timetable or booking another transfer.
Cars cross from the New Ferry Terminal. This allows you to arrange a transfer to a specific address in Nida, Juodkrantė, Preila or Pervalka. When booking, make it clear whether you need a ride to the ferry or a transfer that continues across the lagoon.
The crossing affects your total journey time
Nida is roughly 50 kilometres from Smiltynė. Allow around an hour for that drive, plus the ferry crossing and any time spent queuing. Distance alone will not tell you how long the whole trip will take.
There may be queues at the ferry on summer weekends and public holidays. If you have an event or an agreed arrival time, mention it when booking. Leave a buffer for the return journey too, especially if you have another connection in Klaipėda.
Agree on the full fare beforehand
The ferry ticket and Neringa’s local vehicle entry fee are separate charges. The entry fee depends on the rules in force, so check the municipality’s current information before travelling.
When arranging your taxi, ask what the agreed fare includes: the crossing, any applicable entry fee, stops and waiting time. If you plan to return the same day, discuss the return arrangements at the same time.
What to tell us when booking
- Your final address and preferred arrival time.
- The number of passengers and amount of luggage. Bicycles and other bulky items need to be discussed separately.
- Whether you need a child seat, stops along the way or a return trip.
Take your time on the spit: observe speed limits, watch for wildlife and stop only in designated places. To discuss a route and fare, call +370 665 07778 or send an enquiry.
